It CAN'T Be That Easy....Can It?

So, less than two days after our first meeting with DHS, Mo received a phone call from one of his co-workers, asking if we might be interested in a possible adoption situation.  I obviously can't state the details here, but it absolutely was one that we would consider.  I realize that it is a LOOOOONG SHOT (we haven't even turned in our paperwork yet, let alone completed training/home studies/ etc.), but the neatest part was Mo's reaction.  He IMMEDIATELY got all teary-eyed (just like he has done each time I've shown him a positive pee-stick) and he sat down abruptly and looked right at me.  "Is this the day our lives change forever?" he asked me, oh-so-sincerely.  He was so emotional, and it was like this whole thing just got very, very real for him.  It was amazing to see the total transformation from six months ago, and completely erased any lingering doubts I might have had that he isn't 100% on board.

While I am hesitant to get too excited that this particular situation will be ours (though I would love it to be), I am THRILLED to have a little more motivation to get the ball rolling even faster.  So I'm off to fill out a  stack of paperwork this morning and will be calling our contact person first thing Monday to get everything notarized and start crossing things off the list.

If this situation isn't for us now -- there will be one someday.   I just hope it comes sooner rather than later.

  4. This is awesome!! This is almost exactly how it happened for us. The *DAY* our adoption profile went up on our agency's website, we got a call that there was an expectant mom who wanted to meet with us. 5 weeks later, our son was born and we were parents. I hope the same miracle whirlwind happens for you guys. Fingers and everything crossed!!

  5. I'm sure it must seem crazy that it could happen that quickly, but it does for some people.

I hope that your time comes soon.

  10. Wow! That is fast, but it cAN happen. From what I understand, you don't necessarily need a home study if you do a private adoption.

  12. That's the crazy/funny/weird thing about adoption (even more than preganncy), in my mind - your lives can change SO SUBSTANTIALLY and SO FAST. The IRL friends we hang out with all the time have been home-study approved for a bit (and even though I raise with them that they could get a call any day, they never talk about it), and they got a call on Thanksgiving with a match - delivery in less than a month. Pregnancy doesn't work on that kind of blitz basis (well, other than the I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant ladies, but let's not go there).

So...excited and really all atwitter for you. And I have to say - even though I know this will sound really peculiar - I am happy for you, that after all this time, you will get to cross over (richly deserved!). But I'm really going to miss you on my side of things. While it's nice to have allies in general, there are some I'm particularly attached to, and those are the ones it's hardest to lose.
