Day 3 Embryo Update

The embryologist called bright and early this morning with our embryo update.  Of our 14 embryos from Day 1, we now have:

2 Excellent
6 Good
4 Fair
2 Poor

I didn't ask for any more detail than that (i.e. how many cells, etc.), because I honestly don't need anything else to obsess over.  Of the 14 we started with, 12 are hanging in there.  I think Mo was a little disappointed to hear that only 2 were graded as "excellent,"  but I reminded him that "good" embryos make babies, too!  In fact, our "good" embryos made it further into pregnancy than our "excellent" ones did the last time.

I am curious to see how many remain in good standing on Tuesday.  I am still hoping against hope that we'll have two to transfer and six or so to freeze -- and that we can complete our family from this cycle (with an additional FET or two).  I know that given our history that may seem a little far-fetched, but I am just so hopeful that all of Mo's lifestyle changes the past year will change our final outcome.

I still have no idea what we'll do if this doesn't work.  6 hours each way to the clinic is going to be hard to pull off during the school year.  We could possibly try to schedule a FET over Christmas break -- but, no.  I'm not going to even consider it.  This IS going to work.  Positive thinking and all that jazz.

In the meantime, I'm keeping myself as busy and distracted as I can.  Lots of blog reading, FB-ing, and a stack of new electronic books (love my Ki.ndle!).  I even baked some cookies the other night.  Thanks, Kristin, for the recipe!  I could use some suggestions, though:  what new books have you read lately and loved?  What do you do to keep your mind off of IF?  Any recipes that you'd like to share?

It's going to be a long two days -- and an even longer two weeks after that.  I need all the distraction I can get!

  1. I can relate to the long commute to the clinic. Ours is 7.5 hours on a plane. It's exhausting and a trip I am hoping not to have to make multiple times.

Sending you lots of positive thoughts that your embryos continue to grow and divide and then implant nicely and grow into cute little babies.

You're right, we're on the same timeline. The clinic hasn't mentioned when my beta will be just yet. Perhaps the 13th will not be the best day to do it.

  2. I am thrilled to hear your embryos are doing so well. I am so hopeful for you this cycle.

I have to know. How did the cookies turn out? Until that recipe, it had been years since I created a cookie recipe.

  3. What an excellent day 3 report! I am so hopeful that this cycle will be successful.

For me, I found that pampering myself was always a good distraction. I did things like watch a good chick flick, take a nice relaxing bath, get a massage or mani/pedi, indulge in a delicious beverage (mint lemonade, an iced coffee - if you drink caffeine, or even a smoothie). Just be good to yourself now, after all you have been through, you deserve it.

Good luck to you and Mo, I am waiting to hear the great report on Tuesday.

  4. Great report! I'm very hopeful for you this cycle! I don't have any suggestions for distractions in the 2ww...I'm not good at it myself! Praying for a great transfer in a few days and embies snuggling in tight for a long 9 months!

  5. That's an awesome report! I like you're idea of not getting too much info. Best of luck for day 5! All my best to you.

  6. That is a great report! My clinic has never broken down to categories, just 'good enough to transfer' 'good enough to freeze' and 'nope, doesn't make the cut'. :) They will give us a letter grade on the day of transfer, but really, those grades don't mean a thing. My twins started out as a grade B 6 cell, and a grade bleh 4 cell, both extremely fragmented, but they are here and doing just fine :)

I took out library books, I have my Kindle handy, and a birthday to plan. I also have a lot of great blogs to read to help keep my mind off of my own symptom obsession and onto other people's. I can't wait until Tuesday! Let's get this show on the road!

  7. Sounds like things are going great! Best of luck tomorrow...sticky vibes all over the place!
I read "I Love Your Style" while on bed rest after transfer (fun and light) and am reading "The Tender Bar" right now...laugh-out-loud funny. Also have you read "The Elegance of the Hedgehog?" One of my favorite books of all time...

  12. What great news!! I am so excited for you.

I've started watching old TV series on DVD or Netflix lately. My new favorite? Arrested Development! It's a few years old - it's been off the air since 2007 but soooo very funny. I highly recommend it!

Hoping for more great news today . . .
